COSTA RICA

COSTA RICA: More than a wonderland of natural attractions.

It literally means “rich coast” and is one of the hottest vacation and eco adventure-travel destinations in Latin America with an invaluable natural heritage. An excellent option for adventurous travelers, as well for the luxury ones, and backpackers alike.

From its golden shores, pristine waters, simmering hot springs, to its mystical rainforests, majestic volcanoes, exotic and one-of-a-kind wildlife. Costa Rica’s territory is twenty six percent composed of conservation (natural protected areas) and it is the home of over 5% of the world’s biological diversity, packed into an area just slightly bigger than Switzerland or like West Virginia (in the USA).

It boasts never-ending adventurous activities, delicious food, friendly people, extensive coastlines and world-class beaches along the Pacific and the Caribbean with its abundant wildlife and cultural vibe. People come around here to swim, soak up the sun, or simply enjoy the laid-back beach towns sprinkled along the coasts.

Inland, the forest-covered mountains offer their own adventures, from volcanoes and waterfalls to ziplining and extraordinary wildlife viewing.

You have to come here to find out why a vacation in this Central American paradise is like no other!

Next, a list (regardless its order) of its trendiest and hotspots destinations for you to plan your best vacation holiday travel package in Costa Rica.

Manuel Antonio National Park
It’s considered a natural gem and a bridge between the sea and the earth. A place where the magic of the beach and the greenery of the forest come together in one place, and the result is a truly natural paradise. One of the most beautiful and biodiverse areas in the world, despite being the smallest national park in the country, the stunning beauty and diversity of wildlife across its 683 hectares is unmatched. Manuel Antonio contains an enchanting combination of rainforest, beaches, coral reefs, and without a doubt, these beaches are the most beautiful ones in the country. In addition, this sector offers a very humid tropical forest (home to sloths, iguanas, the rare and adorable squirrel monkeys, capuchins, millions of colorful crabs and way much more), a mangrove swamp, marine environments, islands, and a lagoon.

Isla Tortuga (Turtle Island)
The Costa Rican prettiest Island, and an ideal location for exploring the country’s fascinating marine habitats. Considered one of the most remote tourist destinations, this hidden gem requires a bit of time and effort to reach, but you are going to be more than amazed and highly rewarded. A side of Costa Rica that not many get to see and one of the most beautiful places on earth. The small cluster of islands is home to shimmering white sand beaches, coral reefs, verdant jungle foliage, and is located off the southeastern shoreline of the Nicoya Peninsula (on the North Pacific Coast). Only accessible by boat, where you can (most likely) appreciate the sea ocean creatures during your trip (including dolphins, manta rays, turtles, and even whales). It offers seaside relaxation, snorkeling, wildlife-watching, all in a tropical wilderness setting that’s out of this world.

Marino Ballena National Park
Marino Ballena National Park is named after the Humpback Whales that migrate here each year to mate before returning to the waters in the north. The “whale tale” or Uvita Beach are two beaches that extend out about two-miles, and with its small waves, is the ideal location to go swimming and relax. It is located in the southern part of the country, and this one is probably the beach that you have seen on social media; a perfect peninsula leading out to a flat top with two curving beaches on either side. Easy to spot, bottlenose and common dolphins, turtles, corals, sponges, lobsters, green marine iguanas, pelicans and more birds. If what you want is to be able to observe the Humpback whales in their natural environment, we advise you to visit us from July to November and from December to April.

Punta Leona Beach
Not frequented much by travelers (who barely even know of its existence because of its location), the nature reserve of Punta Leona is a fascinating place to visit for nature lovers and whose one of its main attractions is the coral reef in the center of the beach; and thanks to its clear waters, you can enjoy its marine biodiversity. Actually, another picture-perfect hot spot in the country. The reserve is one of the most vital in the Pacific sector (from a geographical and conservation point of view) and it’s considered the home of an infinite number of local birds like the Three-wattled Bellbird, Marbled Wood Quail, Hummingbirds, Toucans and the endangered Scarlet Macaw. Beach and lush forest trip all in one.

Samara Beach
One of the country’s most pristine beaches and another picture-perfect hot spot. Located on the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula in the province of Guanacaste, Samara lies at the foot of a steep hill, its main road leads straight into town (where you can find everything and more) and ends at the stunning Samara Beach, which is definitely an ideal place to relax and have the perfect beach time. The beach is surrounded by exotic plants and animals that can be found along its five-kilometer strip, along with a stunning coral reef that lies just offshore.

Arenal Volcano National Park
The Northern Plains of Costa Rica, showcasing very scenic countryside towns, small agriculture communities, and cattle ranches cover rolling hills and deep valleys (definitely, the plains, rainforests, and rivers make the north-central a must-see). Whose main attraction is the Arenal Volcano, a cone-shaped mountain with huge ash columns frequently streaming from the crater, and considered to be the country’s premier region of exploration and excitement. The national park is also known for its wide range of biodiversity, with approximately half of all Costa Rican birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals represented somewhere within its boundaries. Arenal is synonymous of adventure and Eco-discovery, where you can embark on a wide variety of activities.

Poas Volcano National Park
Located in the forests of the Central Mountain Range, which boasts magnificent natural landscapes, is one of Costa Rica’s most active and prominent volcanoes, the Poas. It has one of the largest craters in the world (containing a green acid crater lake), but while it is one of the most active volcanoes, don’t expect to see lava flow, ok. However, you are going to be more than amazed when you see the steam and gases coming from the crater, and occasional amazing geyser-like eruptions.

Monte Verde
A cloud forest reserve that makes you one with mother nature on a whole new level. Monteverde is one of the top world ecotourism destinations, a spectacular wildlife sanctuary, and home to the most endangered species on the planet. The clouds covering these forests provide the moisture necessary to sustain the area’s unique habitats, and sustain various mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. Keep an eye out for colorful frogs, sloths, howling monkeys, coatis, agoutis, porcupines, gray foxes, tarantulas, frogs, many species of insects, and plenty of birds. Jaguars and pumas are more elusive. So if you are dreaming to immerse yourself in nature and see unique plants and wildlife this is definitely the place to come.

A nature lover’s delight and one of the most extensive national parks in the country. With over 45000 hectares, it has seven diverse habitats, due to the variety in elevation, ranging from the top of the Barva Volcano (2,906 meters) to around 50 meters in the Caribbean lowlands. Encompassing rugged high mountains, lush primaveral forest, cloud forest, virgin forest, waterfalls, canyons and dormant volcanoes. Allowing you to have a vision of the forest from a different perspective (the treetops, the understory, and the floor), plus spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano. So if you’re looking to experience the famous Costa Rican hanging bridges, learn about the rainforest and see wildlife, this is the best place to go.

La Paz waterfall gardens
A privately owned nature park and a must-see attraction in the country. A marvelous natural park of approximately over 70 acres, and home to a wide variety of wildlife (including monkeys, butterflies, hummingbirds, and many others). Its main idea is to walk through its many spectacular and interpretative trails with waterfalls, taking you to the highlight of the park, La Paz waterfall. It is located in a biological reserve, with an area of 210 acres of tropical wet forest (part of the Arenal Volcano National Park) and based on rocky foundations of great geological value, causing, in turn, a lush and scenic beauty.

Celeste River waterfall & volcano Tenorio National Park
One of Costa Rica’s enchanted wonders. The legend goes that the River owes its name to the fact that God (after painting the skies) cleaned his brushes in these waters. The National Park volcano Tenorio, has more than you could want or even imagine in a lush tropical forest by walking your way through zones with a majestic cascade, a creek flowing off the volcano, boiling-water springs, and plenty of volcanic activity zones. Rio Celeste is one of those nature’s phenomena that you must witness with your own eyes to really feel the unimaginable beauty that these crystal-clear turquoise waters hold. But how does the river get its special color? Actually it is an optical illusion, being responsible for it, the aluminosilicates that cover the rocks lying along the bottom of the river.
