Copan; the Mayan Venice
A truly impressive sacred Mayan site and World Heritage, which is only 15 kilometers from the border with Guatemala. Where you can appreciate one of the greatest artistic expressions according to the stone carving for the elaboration of stelaes and altars, because the society that lived here was deeply symbolic and art focused. This site is famous for its Hieroglyphic Stairway, a unique temple that holds the longest known Mayan text (information carved yet to be deciphered); the Acropolis featuring superb carved reliefs of the 16 kings of Copán, and the ball court. While you’re exploring the site, keep an eye out for the spectacular scarlet macaws flying among the ruins. Inside the sacred site, you can also find the superb Museum of Mayan Sculpture (an essential stop) which displays impressive and original artifacts recovered from here, and undoubtedly, the masterpiece is the full-sized replica of the ornate Rosalila Temple.

Roatan
Once a well-kept secret, it is now a cruise ship port and a popular vacation destination. In general, the Bay Islands refer to the beautiful archipelago comprising Roatán, Utila, Guanaja, and an endless number of cayes, inhabited at first by the Mayans and later by the Payas (an ancestral tribe from the South of America). In the 16th century, the Spanish invaders arrived and brought African slaves as part of their crew and then, the beautiful and unique mix between indigenous people with African people, known as the Garifuna. Roatán is the largest island in the bay and a trendy hotspot in the world to enjoy its excellent climate, diving classes (all levels), coral reefs, traditional dances, among many other things. Currently, the island is a 90% dense jungle area. The New York Times distinguished Roatán as one of the 50 places in the world to visit due to the purity of its beaches with crystal clear waters (a sea turquoise color) and to the beauty and tranquility that can be enjoyed in the company of family or friends. One of the best strands is definitely West Bay Beach and the small community of Sandy Bay is the cultural center of Roatán. The top tourist attractions here include the Roatán Institute of Marine Sciences (with its popular dolphin encounters); the Roatán Museum; Carambola Gardens (the favorite one for nature lovers); and the Roatán Marine Park (the favorite one for snorkeling). At Manawakie and Gumbalimba parks, you can cuddle sloths and get up close to capuchin monkeys and colorful macaws.

Utila
Located just about 32 kilometers from the west coast of Roatán, it’s the most “active” and charming of the islands in the archipelago. Despite its changes over the decades since its transfer from the British to Honduras’ government (19th century). This one has gone from being a gated community dedicated to fishing to being one of the most cosmopolitan places in the region and developing as one of the best tourist destinations in the Caribbean. It is an excellent example for the rest of the area. The island is imbued with an atmosphere of piracy stories, natural charms, the islanders’ daily lives, and we dare to say that it is the true sanctuary for the largest fish on planet earth, the Whale Shark, because these gentle giants are frequently spotted in the waters around the island The United Nations (UN) declared the Island of Utila as the best place in the world to dive. It is right for us since it is possessed of vibrant and abundant marine life, combined with totally crystalline waters having excellent visibility up to 500 m. It is also considered one of the world’s cheapest places to study and achieve professional diving certification (PADI). But besides diving, most visitors bide their time basking on the two slivers of the beach and enjoying some fresh seafood and traditional Honduran cuisine.

So take a look at our travel proposals and selected activities, and get ready to live the best vacation holiday travel packages in Honduras. A diamond in the rough.
