About our creole cacao:

It comes directly from our farm located in Guatemala’s lush rainforest, from our partner’s land (close by), and our beautiful country’s pacific coast. 

The cacao trees in those regions are direct descendants of an ancient forest of trees domesticated by the Mayans over more than 3,000 years ago. They are known as the grandmother trees since they have been growing and reproducing since before the Spanish invasion (1,524).

“Criollo” means native. The chocolate derived from this variety is of the highest quality. It is classified as the more complex and most delicate aromatic flavor.  

Many cacao farmers grow trees that produce lower quality and more because they are more resilient to disease and guarantee a good harvest. The fine cacao (like ours) represents only 5% of world cocoa production and only grows around here in Central America.  The geographic limitations that growing cacao has to make Guatemala one of the few places in the world can produce fine cacao.

There are from 25 to 50 cocoa beans in a cocoa pod, and they are wild-harvested, hand-picked, fermented, sun-dried, lightly roasted, peeled, and grounded by hand. Then it is milled in small batches, allowing our cacao to develop the subtle nuances in flavor and nutrition that make it a nutrient-rich, immunity enhancing, and high vibe health tonic.  It is packaged fresh, shipped worldwide, and it is totally pure plant magic.

A brief history of Chocolate:

Around more than 3,000 years ago in Mesoamerica (the Mayan territory and where our kakaw comes from), the ancient Maya made a chocolate drink from cacao and some other spices (like chile, pepper, achiote, etc.)  Back in those days, they were drinking it in red color (because of the achiote), making the resemblance of blood, and it was called “the flesh of the Gods.” 

At the beginning of the 17th Century, it was introduced to the Spanish way before coffee or tea, until a Dutchman, Mr. Coenraad Johannes Van Houten invented a way of making the drink into a solid (the first chocolate bar). From then, everything is part of history, and the cacao tree was spread all over the world. 

Cacao is a unique, powerful plant that connects us deeper into who we truly are. The ancient Maya were profoundly in contact with the divinity that lives within us.

Why is our ceremonial grade & chocolatier level cacao different than the others?

Our cacaos are entirely different from the commercial chocolate you buy from your local shop or to the other “ceremonial ones” nowadays.  Why? Because it’s from the heart of the Mayan world, Guatemala is the true home of the kakaw. It supports the indigenous Mayan communities in our country. 

Each bean (as we said before) is carefully selected to ensure only the highest quality. Most of the process is artisanal-handmade, infused with love, high energy vibes, and no added ingredients, just 100% creole cacao. The others are heavily machine-processed with so many added ingredients, with almost zero percentage of pure cacao and definitely without a soul, consciousness, and the magical-heart opening properties of ours.
