Itinerary

Day 1Welcome to Guatemala; the Heart of the Mayan world and transfer to Antigua

Welcome by our team at the Aurora International Airport (GUA) and private transportation (at any time) to the beautiful and colonial City in ruins of La Antigua Guatemala (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a magical city full of charm and probably the most visited town in the country.

Free time to explore (try to arrive before 5 pm to enjoy the sunset in Antigua with tea, coffee, or drinks), rest, and prepare ourselves for our upcoming transformative journey. Overnight in a comfortable hotel in Antigua.

Meals: None.
Lodging: Hotel (Antigua).
Activities: Welcome transfer and sightseeing.

Day 2Lake Atitlan with its social projects, ancient Mayan workshops of San Juan, and the healing temazcal (the Mayan sauna) of San Marcos La Laguna

Aldous Huxley’s described Atitlan as “too much of a good thing, it touches the limit of the permissibly picturesque” and we know that you will just love it too.

Early morning breakfast and the beginning of our journey through the Mayan highlands. Most known as the sectors of our indigenous Mayan culture alive and surrounded by beautiful landscapes full of mountains, indigenous communities, and all kinds of crops until the town of Panajachel, located on the shores of Atitlan and the place where we will take our boat and cross the crystalline waters of the Lake until the small, picturesque and charming town of San Juan La Laguna. Lunch and a cultural afternoon, full of ancestral knowledge by visiting and learning from their community social projects, focused on preserving alternative and natural medicine, primitivist painting, natural dyeing, and beekeeping.

And last but not least, we will end our epic day with the holistic and healing town of San Marcos la Laguna. We will have the opportunity (late afternoon) to experience the Mayan sauna or Temazcal (the house of hot stones), whose ancestral purpose is therapeutic. Seeking relaxation and detoxification of our body and calm for our mind until finding inner peace. Actually, after everything that we had done before, it was time to relax and pamper ourselves. Overnight in a comfortable Hotel in Atitlan.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch.
Lodging: Hotel (San Marcos La Laguna).
Activities: Panajachel sightseeing, Boat ride (Lake Atitlan), San Juan (Tour & workshops), and San Marcos (Temazcal).

Day 3Paddleboard in the Lake, hiking, sacred Mayan fire ceremony in San Marcos, and our transportation to Guatemala city

Early breakfast and paddleboard on the Lake’s crystalline and calm waters surrounded by its majestic 03 volcanoes (San Pedro, Atitlan, and Toliman). Being able to experience the day-to-day life of the Lake inhabitants, standing out among them their multiple farmers and fishers. Followed by the Cerro Tzankujil hike (a local sacred and protected area) for our fire ceremony guided by a Mayan elder spiritual guide or Aj Q’ij to connect with the spirit of the fire and to know more about ourselves by our nahual (or alter ego) reading.

The boat ride back to Panajachel, lunch, and our afternoon return to Guatemala city. Overnight in a comfortable Hotel.

Meals: Breakfast and dinner.
Lodging: Hotel (Guatemala City).
Activities: San Marcos sightseeing, paddleboard, hiking, Mayan fire ceremony, and boat ride (Lake Atitlan)

Day 4Copan (Honduras) and the maximum expression of Mayan art with multidimensional 3D carving stelas, altars, temples, and much more

Early morning breakfast and our transportation thought the cataloged mystic west of the country until our neighbor’s brother country, Honduras. Border and customs are crossing until Copan (located around 15 km.), lunch, and exploring this impressive archaeological UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This impressive sacred site has the only staircase with hieroglyphics, including the most extended text found in the Mayan world. Plus the maximum artistic expressions of the ancients. Multidimensional stone carving for the elaboration of stelas and altars.

We will continue our visit to the Copan Ruinas town, a small but lovely village located just next to the archaeological site. Overnight in a comfortable Hotel.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch.
Lodging: Hotel (Copan).
Activities: Transportation to Honduras, border crossing, Copan expedition, and Copan Ruinas town sightseeing.

Day 5Quirigua and its incomparable zoomorphic figures, including the tallest stone monuments of all the Americas.

Early morning breakfast and our transportation through the Caribbean side of Guatemala with an infinite number of lush natural areas and much more Caribbean fruits and vegetables until Quirigua, a privileged Mayan city developed next to the Rio Grande or Motagua where the jade births are found, the sacred stone for the Mayans. Quirigua is an impressive archaeological UNESCO World Heritage Site that is part of the travelers’ itinerary with knowledge of our culture and good taste for the ancient arts.

You are exploring this sacred site home of the biggest stelas (actually books written in stone telling us the site’s history) in the Mayan world. Excelling its famous stela E with almost 11 meters high and the only mindblowing zoomorph P that will leave you with your mouth open.

Later on, we will continue our way until Rio Dulce (sweet river). Relax, jump on the water, lunch and finally enter the lush Mayan jungle of El Peten, up to the Isla de Flores. Located in the middle of the crystal clear waters of Lake Peten Itza. Overnight in a comfortable Hotel.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch.
Lodging: Hotel (Isla de Flores).
Activities: Transportation back to Guatemala, border crossing, Quirigua Expedition, and Rio Dulce sightseeing

Day 6The only sunrise of the Mayan Biosphere Reserve at Tikal. The quick local flight back to Guatemala city and our special goodbye dinner

Just because today is the last day of our journey, it doesn’t mean we’re slowing down.

The indescribable experience of seeing and feeling the Mayan jungle’s dawn from the highest part of Templo IV (or the Bicephalous Serpent). What a way to begin our day, right? Early morning transportation with a breakfast box and exploration of the impressive sacred Mayan archeological site of Tikal (the City of the voices), a UNESCO World Heritage site that was one of the most powerful Mayan kingdoms. Tikal is a place full of magic and mysticism, which history begins around 2000 years A.C., and today archaeologists are still working on the site, finding day by day more evidence of our ancient and wise civilization.

In Tikal, we will connect with its mysticism, divine magic and decipher the greatest mysteries and enigmas of this impressive civilization as you walk through its dense jungle. Among its remarkable structures excels the Great Jaguar (or Temple 1), an icon for the Mayas, located in the Central Acropolis, Temple 2 (or the Masks), The Lost World, the Window Palace, and the Temple 4 (or the two-headed serpent) that it’s one of the tallest pre-Colombian structures of all the Americas. We have free time for lunch and afternoon transfer back to la Isla de Flores to catch our local flight back to Guatemala city. Because it is your last night, we are going to have a perfect time celebrating life, taking you out for a delicious and special goodbye dinner. Overnight in a comfortable Hotel in Guatemala City.

Activities: Isla de Flores sightseeing, Tikal expedition, local flight to GUA, and a special goodbye dinner.
