Your Itinerary

Day 01Welcome to Guatemala (Heart of the Mayan world) and Antigua transfer.

Welcome by your team at the Aurora International Airport (GUA) and transportation to the cosmopolitan and colonial City of La Antigua Guatemala (UNESCO World Heritage Site), a “pueblo magico” full of charm and probably the most visited one in the country.

Free & easy time to explore your colonial surroundings (try to arrive before midday and enjoy the sunset in Antigua with tea, coffee, or drinks), begin to connect with the local people and international community, and prepare yourself for your upcoming rewarding  journey.

Activities: Welcome transfer and sightseeing.

Day 02A cultural and artistic experience in Antigua Guatemala.

Begin your day with an interactive walking tour of Antiguas most famous cobblestone streets, visiting its central plaza, the Cathedral and its ruins, the Capuchinas convent, San Francisco de Asis Church, Saint Peters graveyard (la tumba del hermano Pedro), it’s fantastic and colorful food & handicraft markets, jade stores (the sacred stone of the Mayans), and way much more.

Visit a local cafe and try probably one of the best coffees you have ever tried, engage with the local people and artisans, take photos of Antigua´s unique charm including the Calle del Arco (Arch street) and El Mirador El Cerro de la Cruz (with a fantastic panoramic view of the city).

Activities: Antigua Guatemala walking tour (including Cathedral ruins, Capuchinas convent, San Francisco de Asís & El Santo Hermano Pedro convent).

Day 05: Option #1Your coffee & cocoa cultural immersion.

Your morning visit to a one of a kind and marvelous farm for you to connect with the coffee & cocoa spirit.  Engage with the farm and its people.

Everyone knows that Guatemala has one of the best coffees in the world (actually the best one) and that these sacred lands are the true home of the creole cacao “the flesh of the Gods”, which was considered as the currency in ancient times and pure medicine for the heart & soul. 

Both products are essential for the Mayan culture, so get ready for a cultural immersion by learning everything about them, from its ancient history, plantation, taking care of, harvesting, grains selection, fermentation, roasting, etc. 

Your hands-on action on a bean to bar experience.

Activities: Coffee tour & cacao tour.

Day 05: Option #2The Pacaya active volcano; also known as the torch of the Americas and your lava encounters.

Morning transfer to the pacific coast until the Pacaya Volcano and Calderas Lagoon national park, so get ready for nature and adventure by hiking its interpretive trails of massive, rugged dried lava fields, magma stones, and steaming boilers (scorching). The volcano is surrounded by magnificent and breathtaking views of the Agua, Fuego & Acatenango volcanoes.

This hike is the least challenging volcano hike, but that doesn’t mean that’s easy. It’s perfect for a group of travelers and families in search of a hot adventure.

Connect with this impressive volcano’s energy, and if we are lucky enough,  the Pacaya and Acatenango (both active volcanoes) will set up a lava show for you! Because just recently, Pacaya has become more active again.

Day 06Iximche Mayan sacred site (the Mayan tree of life) and Atitlan Lake.

The beginning of your journey through the Mayan highlands, most known as the sectors of the indigenous Mayan culture alive. Areas surrounded by beautiful landscapes of mountains, volcanoes, indigenous communities, and all kinds of crops until Iximche (Ixim = Corn & Chee = Tree).

A very important and energetic sacred site where the ancient Mayans founded their last capital, exploration of its palaces, plazas, ball game, its museum, and its fire ceremonial zone.

Later on, continue your way to the town of Panajachel, located on the shores of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Atitlan, followed by your visit to the town, its markets and several stores and a free and easy afternoon for you to connect with your unique natural surroundings.

Aldous Huxley described Atitlan as “too much of a good thing, it touches the limit of the permissibly picturesque”

Activities: Drive to Lake Atitlan, Iximche visit, Panajachel visit and free and easy time.

Day 07Atitlan Lake with its indigenous communities and Mayan workshops in San Juan La Laguna and your Mayan sacred fire ceremony and cocoa ceremony in San Marcos La Laguna.

Your morning boat ride to cross the crystalline waters of the Lake for explore and engage with the indigenous and charming towns of San Juan and San Marcos La Laguna, in a day of ancestral knowledge by visiting and learning from their community social projects, focused on preserving their cultural heritage by working with alternative and natural medicine, weaving, natural dyeing, primitivist painting, and much more.

Later on, continue with a boat ride to visit the holistic town of San Marcos La Laguna, and small but charming shire where the international community and the local people converge (and by the way; don’t forget your swimsuit, because in this place you are going to find the best beaches to swim in the Lake).

And get ready for a special afternoon in this magical town, having the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Mayan sacred fire and to connect with the spirit of the “kakaw” or cocoa also know for the ancient Mayans as the “flesh of the Gods” and consider medicine for your heart and soul.

Day 08Antigua night walking experience and your goodbye dinner.

Goodbye magic lake. It’s time to get back to Antigua, (where everything started for you by celebrating Yazmins and Davides love) for your late afternoon and night walking tour. So get ready to experience the vibrancy and charm of the colonial city at night and celebrate life, friendship and love with a special goodbye dinner on your last day in the heart of the Mayan world, Guatemala.

Activities: Drive to Antigua and late afternoon-night walking experience with dinner.

Day 09Final exit transfer to Guatemala City airport (GUA) and the end of your services.

Be prepared for the tropics and pack multiple changes of clothes: 

Clothing for warm and hot weather during the day: two pairs of pants, two pairs of shorts, three changes of shirts, a rain poncho, a swimsuit, and a sweater or jacket to wear at night. Walking shoes, hiking boots, sneakers, and sandals are all acceptable. 

Quick-dry clothing (especially a pair of convertible pants that zip at the knee to convert into shorts) is recommended for your visit to the tropical areas. 

Always bring a towel, and please don’t forget sunblock, bug spray, a flashlight, a sun hat, a lightweight raincoat or poncho, anti-diarrheal medicine, and wet wipes.
